Sapori
Haddon Ave. - Collingswood

Valentine's Day was right around the corner and my husband and I were trying to choose a restaurant for dinner. Now, I know what you're thinking - why go out on such a busy night, to possibly only receive bad service and a scaled down menu?! Well, my answer to that is simple, Sapori.

Sapori has been open for less than a year in Collingswood. It's a small, intimate restaurant that is owned by the chef and his wife. We have eaten there three times and each time been equally as pleased with the service and our meals. The owner remembers us and his wife stops to talk to us each time we go in.

I always choose something with seafood, while my husband has fallen in love with their pork medallions with risotto. He so kindly offered me a bite, although a small bite, and it was heavenly. We asked the owner's wife about it and she said it marinades for three days before serving.

On our first trip I asked for a suggestion as to what to get and she suggested the Orota, a fish I had never heard of before. It was a grilled white, meaty whole fish that they de-boned at the table. The taste was very nice, not an over-powering fish taste.

Well, our latest trip there was on Valentine's Day and we were not disappointed in the service or the food. I had a special, which was Red Snapper encrusted with almonds and my husband had the pork medallions (once he finds something he likes he eats only that). We both started with a salad, that included fresh mozzarella and grilled eggplant in a vinaigrette dressing. We always enjoy the bread because of the dipping sauces that come with it, each time we've gone it's been different. This time included two different ones, one made with artichokes, the other with olives. My favorite so far has been the pesto dip.

Since it was Valentine's Day we decided to have dessert, I always get the tiramisu, it's the only place I like it, they make it themselves. Of course, we brought a bottle of wine with us because like all Collingswood restaurants it is BYOB.

I would suggest if you go on the weekend to make a reservation, but I would really suggest to go during the week and talk to the owner, tell him what you do and don't like, and let him make something for you out of the freshest ingredients.

Bon Appetit!
